
What are the entry requirements to RICS APC?
RICS offers various routes to membership depending on your qualifications and experience.
🎓 Academic Qualifications
The most common entry route is through a RICS-accredited degree in a relevant field such as surveying, real estate, construction, or engineering. If your degree is not accredited, you may still be eligible, but your experience will be assessed to determine suitability.
1. RICS accredited degree – At least 24 months’ structured training and a minimum of 96 hours’ continuing professional development (CPD).
2. RICS accredited degree with a minimum of five years’ relevant experience – At least 12 months’ structured training and a minimum of 48 hours’ continuing professional development (CPD).
3. RICS accredited degree with a minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience – Demonstrate a minimum of 48 hours’ continuing professional development (CPD) over the preceding 12 months. No structured training period required.
4. Bachelor degree or higher (or membership of an RICS approved professional body) with a minimum of five years’ relevant experience (at least 12 months must be
post qualification) – Successfully complete the preliminary review and a minimum of 48 hours’ continuing professional development (CPD).
💼 Relevant Work Experience
Even without a degree, candidates with extensive relevant professional experience may still be eligible through the following entry routes:
1. Senior Professional – you have 10 years of relevant experience (5 years if you have a postgraduate degree) and can demonstrate advanced responsibilities as a senior leader.
2. Specialist – you have 10 years of relevant experience (5 years if you have a postgraduate degree) and can demonstrate advanced responsibilities for delivering specialist areas of work.
3. Academic – you have undertaken academic activities relevant to the profession over a three-year period and hold a surveying-related degree.
👥Recognition of Professional Qualifications (RPQ)
If you have professional qualifications, or you re a member of another professional body, you may be eligible to join the RICS via the Direct Entry. In May 2025, RICS replaced the term ‘Direct Entry’ with Recognition of Professional Qualifications (RPQ).
